The Japanese company will release the latest video recorder in VHS format

Japanese company Funai Electric, the last known manufacturer of VCRs will cease production of these devices by the end of the month.

Funai is engaged in production of VCRs for over 30 years. However, the drop in sales and inaccessibility of parts has forced the Japanese company to abandon the production of this type of equipment.

Funai took up the issue of VHS VCRs in 1983, the year after a failed attempt to run your own CVC format in 1980. In good times, the company has sold about 15 million VCRs a year, but last year sales were down to 750 thousand.

The VHS VCR was able to survive for a long time competing Betamax players. They were discontinued back in 2002-m to year, but the production of tapes of this format lasted until November 2015.

As for the VHS tapes, they are now becoming collectible. The cost of some tapes with very rare movies can go up to $1900.
