The results of the first half in the Russian market

Optimistic forecasts did not come true: the first six months of 2016 was worse than expected. For six months it was sold 672 thousand cars, which is 110 thousand less than in the same period of 2015. The continued contraction of the market, expressed in double digits, forced the Association of European businesses (AEB) change forecast annual sales — from 1.53 million to 1.44 million vehicles (minus 10.3 percent by 2015).

Despite the continuous decline, the market managed to overcome a state of shock — it no longer resembles a sinking ship run brands. Relative stability has allowed companies to adjust product lines and pricing, and even someone to boost sales and increase its market share.

Mass market

In the top three Lada -124 thousands of units sold, minus 12% from last year; KIA — 69 thousand, minus 8 percent; and Hyundai — 64K, minus 19 percent. Chinese brands, the demand for which fell all last year, also managed to grow up, but in absolute terms their sales are low: Lifan managed to implement 7 thousand cars (plus 63 percent), Chery — 2 thousand (plus 5 percent). The third notable manufacturer from China, Geely has sold 3 thousand cars, losing 19 percent from last year.

The premium segment

Sales of premium cars looked impressive against the backdrop of falling demand for budget brands, for example, in April, when the market showed the worst result in 10 years, Jaguar and Volvo added 48 and 52 percent. However, the results of half of almost all premium brands have shown a negative result. Traditionally the leader of the “German Troika: Mercedes-Benz — 19 thousand of sold cars, minus 17% from last year; BMW — 14 thousand, minus 2 percent; and Audi — 11 thousand, minus 8 percent.

In the black Lexus — 11 thousand, which is 17 percent more than last year. Compact crossover Lexus NX was the most selling car segment buyers purchased 920. Positive dynamics was shown by Jaguar, which sold 721 car (plus 73 percent), and Cadillac — 600 (plus 29 percent).

Steadily growing sales of luxury cars. In the first half of the owners of luxury cars became 575 Russians, which is 21 percent more than the year before. The most popular model — the Mercedes-Benz Maybach S-Class (368 of units, plus 45 percent).

Secondary market

The amount of “secondary” for six months of 2016 is 2.5 million vehicles, 11 percent more than last year. Buyers ‘ preferences are as follows: Lada — 695 thousand cars sold, minus 0.1 percent; Toyota — 282 thousands, plus 16.6 percent; Nissan — 130 thousand, plus 16.8 percent. The five leaders also includes Hyundai 101 thousand (plus 26.9%), and Chevrolet — 104 thousand (plus 20.8 percent).

The model structure of the secondary market, according to the Agency “AUTOSTAT”, in the first place Lada 2114, the second Lada 2107, and the third Ford Focus, the best-selling among the cars. The best dynamics of the sales of the Hyundai Solaris (plus 57 percent) and Lada Granta (plus 47 percent), because of their leadership in the primary market — approached the traditional time to change the first owners.

Significant events market

The scandal for the half — year resignation from the post of President of AVTOVAZ Bo Andersson. Swedish top Manager was accused excessive purchases of foreign-made components for domestic cars. This led to a record loss of 74 billion rubles.
