Scientists have found out what the carrot was in ancient times.
A team from the University of Wisconsin, located in the U.S. city of Madison, under the control of genetics Phil Simon conducted a study in which figured out how carrots could so effectively accumulate carotenoids – the pigment that gives the plant a characteristic color and properties.
The results were published in the journal Nature Genetics. According to scientists, this vegetable first appeared in Europe in the XVI century and immediately became very popular.
Initially the root was wild and had a white color. Later came the carrots of other colors, however orange is so widely spread. It is unknown why the people of that time liked the root vegetable of this color, but it turned out to be a very good choice. It is the carotenoids make the plant so useful to me.
