Why in the USSR religion was destroyed, and now develop?

– Go to Church!as I said-one of the partners, when talking about reducing the income of one of the areas of the business. Next half an hour telling about the decline of morals, that the Church businessmen rarely go, and need something to rectify the situation: because only the Church is able to unite the nation, to establish a personal life and, of course, to improve things in the business. At some point I could not understand: in front of me the it specialist of forty years or seventy years grandma?!

Actually, the religion I am positive and am Orthodox. Just never considered the Church an instrument for the solution of my personal problems in life, especially a tool that improves business processes. Religion to me is a heaven of tranquillity where you can renounce the everyday hustle and bustle and reflect on the eternal themes (forgiveness, love, care).

Church Ministers I think are specialists that can help just to find that peace and be taught to renounce the ordinary life for the sake of these few minutes a day some bright ideas. I may be wrong, but I really can help in making business decisions the person who even has no idea what today’s online business, not to mention the nuances? Anyway, strangely, when the priests try on the image of consultants in all matters relating to the lives of believers, especially business and politics.

Somehow it looked like an ordinary priest in the 40-ies of the last century. Shows the way the partisans

Religion is the opium of the people. After all, what well-turned phrase! Indeed, when a person completely lacks the ability to take responsibility for his own life, he subconsciously looking for someone who is responsible like this would take. For example, man does not have enough will power to divorce his wife. Here he is a wimp in life. Went to Church, asked the advice of a priest, and he replied that, they say, throw away the bad thoughts and live in peace with his wife. What are you gonna do man? Likely to tolerate your wife-Downer on.

Religious leaders and the Secretary General of the USSR, comrade Leonid Brezhnev

Or policy. In any secular state the Church is not a place of agitation, and Church Ministers can’t be propagandists, but in Russia, because otherwise things are going! No-no, and the priest will say a few words about stability, built Petrov-Ivanov-Sidorov. No-no, and will praise the Governor, rolled back some money for the new Church. In the Caucasus in General everything is clear–only one choice may be to vote we will all be at such and such a person!

Now that is interesting. In the USSR religion was fought, in every way preventing the spread of the influence of the Church on the population. Still, most of the priests were born not in the USSR (for example, the clergy of the 40-50-ies), and they remembered and the king, and Fatherland. And these were huge risks for newly born country. Suddenly the priest starts to teach young people that Lenin is just a bald guy, and communism is something minor (in comparison with faith, for example)? And if tomorrow really will be ordered to go and kill opponents of communism, what do you say here are now believers?! They can’t kill, because faith forbids? In addition, the priests in the Soviet era were not agitators.

It turns out that in the Soviet Union religion was banned, simply because the country’s leadership had no real levers of influence on the Church? To put the priests on a financial needle, then, was difficult: intakes@@STV not completely developed (and was actually banned in the USSR), and, respectively, and the construction of new churches, no one was demanding. Churches were turned into warehouses, sports halls, concert halls or clubs. The CPSU Central Committee in every way tried to destroy the communication channel in an uncontrolled small group of priests with a large group of believers.

The Nativity Cathedral (the Cathedral of Christ the Savior) after the explosion in the 30-ies of the last century

Now the churches are built on every available corner. The number of Orthodox priests over 33 000 (this is only priests and deacons), and the total number of personnel that support the activities of the ROC in Russia, I think, considerably above 100,000 people. The government strongly promotes the Church’s mission, both financially and through its decisions regarding the allocation of land, for example. Obviously, the anger gave way not even for mercy, and generosity.

Modern priests live much better than their colleagues from the USSR

It turns out that the connection of the Church with the people not only recovered, but strengthened significantly since Soviet times. What has changed? The government cares about the peace of mind of its citizens, and yet found the approach that the Church and the government work together? It turns out that the increased level of consumerism have added to the desire the priests to live better: to have a Mercedes, villas, yachts? And the increased demand for goods and creates a very specific supply of these goods in exchange for something?

How do you feel about religion in General and the ROC in particular? How often do you attend Church: do the service of the family or not? And most importantly, how the Church has changed since Soviet times, there are among my readers those who can compare?
