New species of plants were found on the island Kuroshima in Japan. They were given the scientific name Gastrodia kuroshimensis. These plants get nutrients not through photosynthesis, but through a lot of mushrooms. This type of plants has been of interest to botanists, but it is difficult to find as most of them are small in size and few of them, according to Natural Science News. Such plants are also found in dark places in the forest. You can only see them when they bloom.
The new plant is very unique in that it is completely self-pollinating. Most of the plants have self-pollinating flowers also produce flowers that can be pollinated. New, however, is a completely self-pollinating plant. Such plants are still a mystery to most nerds, as some of them have already been studied. Opening G. kurosimensis will provide botanists and researchers another opportunity to study this plant species.
