This rare phenomenon can be seen over the Western hemisphere.
On the night of 30 September in the skies over America, it will be possible to observe the rare astronomical phenomenon – the black moon.
Friday night in the sky over the Western hemisphere, you will notice quite a rare phenomenon. The people of Europe and Asia unusual “black moon” will have to wait another month – they will be able to see it just on the eve of Halloween.
Black moon is the second new moon in the month when the satellite remains almost completely invisible in the night sky. According to the astronomer Josh RAO, the second full moon within one calendar month is sometimes called blue. “The phenomenon of the Black moon, presumably, is the flip side of a blue moon: the second new moon in a calendar month.”
For the Eastern hemisphere (Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia), the black moon appears in the sky next month. Since the first new moon is expected on 1 October, the second new moon a black moon will occur on 30 or 31 October depending on where you live.
For Amateur astronomers the black moon is a challenge. They can try to break the world record for the youngest picture of the moon, established in 2013, French photographer Thierry Lega, who managed to take a picture when the Sun and Moon were separated by only 4.4 degrees.
