Ancient skull with traces of trepanation ritual unearthed in the South of Russia.
Recently, archaeologists found a strange discovery in the South of Russia.
Their hands were ancient skulls of men and women with distinct traces of a ritual trepanation. Two of the thirteen people are unable to survive such an operation.
There are thirteen skulls in the region of Rostov-on-don, Kabardino-Balkaria and Stavropol Krai. According to preliminary data, they belong to the period between the fifth and third Millennium BC. Age of people who have made a craniotomy ranged adolescence to old age. Based on this, and the peculiarities of surgical intervention anthropologists have suggested that ancient people were able to select a particular caste population. Traces of natural wound healing were only eleven turtles, and two accidents then died after the intervention.
Unfortunately, we are unlikely to know what was the meaning of this ritual and who, exactly, initiated by such cruel way. However, the version of the scientists on the ancient division of society into groups is the most plausible.
