Hubble helped astronomers to get the “eye” of the galaxy.
Astronomers with telescopes, the Hubble and Alma got the pair of interacting galaxies with the formation of ocular structures, that is, forms that look like the eye.
The picture was published on the website of the European southern Observatory.
This structure is formed by the collision of galaxies. In themselves the collisions of galaxies are not unusual, but the ocular structure was observed only in a few cases. Most likely the uncommon this is due to the fact that the ocular structure is preserved during tens of millions of years, by the standards of the lifetime of the galaxies – just a moment.
Of the two shown in the picture of galaxies, IC 2163 (left) and NGC 2207 (right), the ocular structure is shown in the first (IC 2163). The property is situated at a distance of about 114 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Canis major.
