Dust “tsunami” provoked a vivid phenomenon in the galaxy IC 2163

Газопылевое "цунами" спровоцировало яркое явление в галактике IC 2163Astronomers believe that the formation of such waves will allow more detailed study of the formation of galaxies.

The “tsunami” of stars and gas, crashing on spiral galaxy IC 2163, located approximately 130 million light years from Earth, resembles a pair of eyes, as seen in new stunning photos taken by scientists.

The phenomenon occurred after IC 2163 collision with another galaxy, known as NGC 2207.

Collisions of galaxies are not rare, even the milky Way and the Andromeda galaxy, bound by gravity, approaching each other with great speed. The potential conflict is expected to take place over billions of years. These interactions of galaxies stimulate the formation of massive stars, and many of them become supernovae.

In the case of IC 2163 and NGC 2207, three of a supernova explosion has already taken place in the last 15 years, since the interaction between the two galaxies has been extensively studied. In an article published in the Astrophysical Journal, the scientists described the formation of the dazzling “gazobetonnyh” arcs as a result of these interactions. Discovery of this kind is rare and may shed light on the process of galactic collisions.

This “tsunami” is the result of the collision between the two galaxies, which leads to the accumulation of gas, and that’s what generates new clusters of stars, as well as the features of this phenomenon.
