The find was made at the archaeological complex of Durrington-walls, which is located three kilometers from Stonehenge.
According to experts, the giant wooden structure was never completed. Due to powerful religious, but presumably, and political developments, the construction after a few years was discontinued. Nevertheless, scientists managed to establish, that by the time the construction was at final stage.
The publication reports that the giant wooden poles that were used for the construction of the building, reached a length of 6-7 metres with a diameter of 60-70 meters. It is assumed that when the decision was made to halt construction, holes for the pillars are specially filled with chalk.
Under the rubble of chalk archaeologists were able to discover the shovel of cow bones that were probably buried at this place during the ritual that marks the completion of construction.
However, scientists were unable to determine whether there were “wooden Stonehenge” destroyed by the creators, or the other group of ancient people.
