Archaeologists have unearthed in Kamianets-Podilskyi unique military tower of the XVII century.
The existence of structures the researchers knew before, because it was marked on ancient maps of the city. The tower was used for defense during the attack of the Turks.
As stated by the candidate of historical Sciences Pavel Nechitailo, “the uniqueness of it is that it closed one of the most beautiful views of the city, the so-called Catholic facade of the old city, where were placed a number of monasteries. Here’s 60 protected the city from the Turks, and that there is written evidence”.
Later this tower was converted into a foundry for casting cannons, which made about 100 barrels. Near the tower, archeologists have found oven. But at the moment it’s hard to say, she was a pottery or blacksmithing.
Kamianets-Podilskyi will apply for membership in the world heritage list of UNESCO. For the city it will be already the third attempt and historians hope that the tower will help the city to obtain the desired status.
