A scientist from Cambridge stated that the ice at the North pole might melt by the end of 2016. In this assumption, he relies on data obtained from the us climate centre.
A climatologist from the British Cambridge Peter Wadhams told that the ice of the North pole could completely melt away in September 2016 on or before September 2017.
This is the conclusion he came to after reviewing information from the American research center National Snow and Ice Data Centre. According to her, by 1 June of the current year, ice cover at the North pole decreased to 11.1 million sq. m. however, during the last thirty years the figure was below 12.7 million sq. m.
After reviewing this information and combining it with their observations Peter Wadhams came to the conclusion that the ice at the North pole could disappear altogether in the near future.
He added that near the North coast of Russia ice has not formed due to the fact that the water temperature in the Arctic ocean has increased markedly.
