Scientists have discovered that our universe is expanding.
The expansion of the Universe occurs rates greater than anticipated. This is the conclusion of astrophysics of the European information center (ESA).
According to ESA, the real speed of expansion of the Universe by 5-8% higher than the known. The reason for that could be a new type of subatomic particle, presumably, violate the energy balance in the early Universe.
To make the discovery, scientists were able, noting the Hubble law describes the expansion of the Universe. The method reduced the error of the calculations to 2.4%.
In particular, the researchers compared the data of the Hubble telescope with the performance of the spacecraft WMAP and Planck. The latter is designed to measure the “afterglow” of the Big Bang whereas the Hubble analyzes the distance between the closest and the most distant galaxies. The results of measurements on light traces were correlated with indicators of expansion of space.
“You are counting on two opposite points and expect that paths will cross in the middle, if the data is correct. But they now intersect is not quite in the middle, and we want to find out why,” – said astrophysicist Adam Riess.
According to him, the results could shed light on such mysterious phenomena as dark matter, dark energy and dark radiation, which make up 95% of the visible Universe. In the near future scientists intend to reduce the error of the calculations to 1%. Help in addition they can have a Hubble space telescope named James Webb and the European extremely large telescope (E-ELT).
