The moon was formed when Earth’s collision with Theia the protoplanets.
Researchers at John Hopkins University came to the conclusion that the Moon appeared about 4.5 billion years ago as a result of collision with the Earth on a planetary object.

The scientists used the laboratory simulation of terrestrial impacts as evidence that the stratified layer below the rocky mantle, appeared when the Earth was struck by a smaller object. The giant impact scenario may also explain the stratification displayed in the upper part of the core of the current planet Earth.
As told to Peter Olson, a Professor at the Johns Hopkins University, until recently, the hypothesis that the clash was considered the main version of the appearance of the satellite, but didn’t have the exact evidence in favor of this assumption. Stratified layer just can be that the necessary confirmation.
According to the giant impact theory, about 4.5 billion years ago, crashed to Earth protoplanet called Theia. Due to this event part of the substance of the earth mantle and substance theis got on the orbit of the planet. Of these debris eventually formed the Moon.
