Scientists believe that this unusual structure was formed by the collision of galaxies.
European astronomers photographed the galaxy PGC 6240 rose in the constellation of Hydra.
The photo clearly shows a concentric structure, the appearance of which is reminiscent of flower petals.
Scientists believe that this unusual structure was formed by the collision of galaxies: the PGC 6240 is of many folds, resembling the petals of a rose. In addition, the researchers found that different star clusters from the environment of this galaxy have a different spectrum.
This indicates their different ages, which is rather unusual, compared to 150 globular clusters surrounding the milky way, originated in about the same time. Probably, these differences may indicate the different origin of the satellites of the galaxy, since many of them came from outside.
This hypothesis also explains the strange form of PGC 6240. At collision of galaxies arise the characteristic density waves, and it is “rose petals”.
