Evidence of explosions on Mars have baffled scientists.
The Curiosity team released data indicating an active tectonic life of Mars. Analysis of soil samples of the red planet showed a high content of crystals of tridymite, a mineral associated with volcanic eruptions on Earth.
It is formed at extremely high temperatures in igneous or metamorphic rocks and brought to the surface the so-called volcanic explosions. We are talking about the most powerful eruptions, which, as scientists assume, was happened on Mars. On our planet, by the way, tridymite found in the cracks of igneous rocks in Hungary and Mexico.
Until now it was thought that Mars did not have such powerful seismic activity on our planet.
Scientists believe that the Red planet has no tectonic plates, movement of which causes earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. All discovered on Mars volcanoes are attributed to the sluggish class, such as those that led to the formation of the Hawaiian Islands. But detection of a sample may force experts to reconsider the history of the planet.
