Modern sky has a new Zodiac sign — Ophiuchus.
Due to the fact that the position of the stars in the sky has changed considerably since, as scientists have created a long-established system of signs of the zodiac, NASA decided to change it.
Experts suggest to add the sign Ophiuchus.
On the educational portal NASA published an article, which tells about the changes in the position of the stars happened from the moment they were recorded by Babylonian astronomers. According to researchers, the sign of Ophiuchus consists of 13 constellations. Scientists emphasize that the earth’s axis has shifted strongly, as the image the sky for three thousand years.
In Babylon, people used a calendar that consisted of 12 months, as is currently the case. Because scientists in ancient times it was convenient to divide the zodiac into 12 parts, but 13 had to be excluded.
Ophiuchus is located between Scorpio and Sagittarius. As noted in NASA, the Sun passes through it from 30 November to 18 December. Its symbol resembles a Latin letter “U” crossed the line.
