Experts at the University of malmö in Sweden and the Kurchatov Institute was able to obtain an electric current from the blood.
Power was enough to power the display on the electronic ink. The full study is published in RSC Advances.
A device that helps to generate electricity from blood, consists of two graphite electrodes, each held by certain chemical reactions. One is in the process of glucose oxidation, which takes place with the release of hydrogen ions, and in other – reduction reaction of oxygen dissolved in the blood.
During operation of the device between the two electrodes an electric current. The researchers conducted a series of experiments, where we made use of volunteers. Studied connected to the medial cubital Vienna, on the catheter and at the other end was located the fuel cell and the blood received in the vessel. Experts measured the current and voltage, and then found out that the energy released was enough to ensure that the display power of 0.74 microwatt.
Such studies do not take into account the viscosity of the blood or the velocity of its flow, as well as other parameters of the human circulatory system.
