Scientists found on Saturn’s mysterious cloud

Ученые нашли на спутнике Сатурна загадочное облако Clouds on Titan are formed not, as suggested by scientists.

Researchers at NASA using the space station Cassini found on Saturn’s moon Titan, the mysterious cloud, which consists of a mixture of carbon and nitrogen, known as acetildenafil (C4N2).

This ingredient in the chemical cocktail stains the atmosphere of Titan in a brown-orange color, according to the NASA website.

A few decades ago the spacecraft Voyager 1 had already noticed the existence of such clouds on Titan. Surprising was the fact that the content of acetildenafil it was less than 1% of the required for condensation of the cloud volume. Now, with the help of the apparatus Cassini scientists got the same results.

“The appearance of this ice cloud is at odds with what we know about the process of their formation on Titan,” said one of the researchers of the Cassini mission.

A typical process of formation of clouds is condensation. On Earth there is a cycle of evaporation and condensation. The same happens in the troposphere of Titan, resistant to weather conditions of the atmosphere of the satellite, but with methane instead of water. In the stratosphere, the region above the troposphere, on the North and South poles of Titan is somewhat a process of condensation.

In this case, the layers of clouds congenerous when the global circulation forces warm gases to sink in the cool regions of the polar stratosphere as they decline. The cloud is formed when the temperature and pressure of the air is very good for “transformation” of steam into the ice. At this point, pairs and ice reach a point of equilibrium, through which scientists can calculate their number.

However, the calculations showed that the formation of clouds from acetildenafil it is necessary that at its height contained more than 100 times more steam than managed to capture the scientists. According to researchers, this cloud is not formed by condensation, and in the process reactions of other types of ice particles. Scientists call this “chemistry of solids”.

The first step in the proposed process is the formation of ice particles consisting of cyanoacetylene (HC3N). As these pieces of ice are moving down through the stratosphere of Titan, they are covered with hydrogen cyanide (HCN). At this stage the particles have a core and a shell consisting of different chemical substances. From time to time a photon of ultraviolet light penetrates into the frozen shell and causes a series of chemical reactions. It is this process that can give hydrogen and acetildenafil.
