Scientists have suggested that there is another extinct species of ancient human.
In the DNA of the inhabitants of the Melanesian Islands may contain the DNA of previously unknown species of ancient people, said at a meeting of the American society of human genetics scientist Ryan Bolender.
The scientists examined the DNA of ancient hominids in the genome of modern Melanesian and found that in addition to the DNA of the Neanderthals and the denisovans, it has a DNA of previously unknown species of ancient people. The researchers used a statistical approach and, taking into account such factors as the size of populations and their divergence (the period when populations ceased to interbreed with each other), discovered a discrepancy between the received data and known information about the ratio of the genome of the ancient people and modern people.
Researchers believe that the population in Africa was 50% more than previously thought. In addition, the division of people into ancient and modern occurred 440 million years ago.
