Scientists explain the causes of deja vu

Neurobilogy for the first time managed to shed light on the nature of deja vu – a mental condition in which a person feels that have been in some situation.

For a long time scientists could not understand the nature of this phenomenon.

According to one version, its nature akin to the brain’s ability to produce false memories, however, scientists led by Akira O’connor from St. Andrews University proved that it is not.

They used the method used to invoke false memories, when the patient says associated the meaning of words such as pillow, bed, night, dream, and doesn’t say connecting them with the word dream. Usually, a person, remembering them, calls and missed word. In a similar experiment volunteers after pronouncing the words they are asked whether they have heard the word, and all answered in the negative.

Later, when the participants were asked what words they heard, they remembered that not sound a word, however, when they were asked about the word “dream” in memory called a false memory, and they were talking about deja vu. Using MRI, researchers found that at this point people have more active prefrontal cortex, which is involved in decision-making.

According to scientists, it means that deja vu is a sign that the system check the human memory works well and people rarely forget events.
