A. fumigatus causes infection that affect the body with a normal immune system. However, in space it weakens and people become more susceptible to pathogens. The pathogenicity of mold in space is not reduced and can lead to serious illness in the astronauts.
Scientists have noted that particularly dangerous mushrooms will be in the long-term missions, because the longer a person is in space the more he is vulnerable.
