Scientists have discovered the closest to the Sun luminary analogues of solar cycles.
American and Polish astrophysicists have found closest to the Sun of a star, a red dwarf Proxima Centauri, the analogues of solar cycles. A study published in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, and briefly about it reports the Harvard-Smithsonian center for astrophysics.
The duration of the cycle in Proxima Centauri is equal to seven years. At it’s peak about a fifth of the lights can be covered with spots — a cold and dark parts of the star. This is more than the Sun.
The Sun cycle is 11 years. The reason for this activity lights scientists is the difference in the rotation speeds of the inner and outer regions of the star. Proxima Centauri is believed to be more homogeneous star than the Sun.
The study does not describe the impact of stellar activity on exoplanet lights b Proxima — the nearest to Earth. A celestial body is about 1.3 times heavier than Earth and the average temperature of its surface is close to zero degrees Celsius is only 10 degrees lower than that of the Earth.
