Professor, University of South Florida Kelly burns, the analysis of the functionality of the Facebook mobile app, found that the program listens to the conversations of smartphone users.
It is known that this hidden feature was introduced in the social networking application two years earlier.
Representatives of Facebook noted that the use of “wiretap” for information about what is happening – in particular, what movies and music users prefer.
At the same time, burns proved that the function is used for contextual advertising – that is, to display in the ribbon of advertising posts with the offer of goods and services.
The Professor noticed that after the conversations on specific topics on websites, you receive the contextual advertising, which includes discussing her earlier questions.
In Facebook commented on the statement of burns, stating that information to advertisers, the social network is not transmitting.
“Facebook does not use audiovisional phones built-in microphones for collecting and transmitting information to advertisers or news agencies in one form or another”, – said the representatives of the social network.
