Black Swifts were Champions for the ability to fly without stopping
Common Swifts (Apus Apus) were Champions among animals in their ability to fly without stopping. Dedicated to the research of the Swedish scientists published in the journal Current Biology.
Biologists with the help of special sensors attached to the legs of Swifts, followed by two years of thirteen birds. It turned out that most of them had been in the air for about 10 months, and only some have made a brief landing on the earth, occupying about 0.5 percent of these 10 months.
Scientists don’t know exactly what features of the body allow the birds to hold in the air for so long.
Common Swifts reach a length of 18 inches, and their wingspan is 40 centimeters. Birds are Champions among animals on the horizontal flight speed, reaching 111 kilometers per hour. As a rule, they rise to a height of three kilometers, and feed by catching insects on the fly.
