Moldova is ready to grant Transnistria a special status

Молдова готова предоставить Приднестровью особый статусUnder the condition of ensuring the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova.

The Moldovan authorities will focus on finding new solutions to the Transnistrian conflict in the framework of a single country where the unrecognized Republic will be granted a special legal status, said Deputy Prime Minister for reintegration, George Balan.

“The efforts of the current government aimed at finding a viable solution to the Transnistrian problem, which would provide special legal status for Transnistria under the condition of ensuring the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova,” said Balan at the meeting, who arrived in Chisinau by members of the parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE.
As reported the press service of the Bureau for reintegration, Balan emphasized the government’s intention to support the residents of the Transnistrian region by promoting measures to build trust.

“European parliamentarians have assured that will continue to provide the necessary political assistance in the process of settling the Transnistrian issue in the framework of the territorial integrity of Moldova”, — noted in press service.

Recall that in early June after a two year hiatus resumed the negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement in the 5+2 format (Moldova and Transnistria as conflict parties, Russia, Ukraine, OSCE as mediators, EU and U.S. as observers).
