Astronomers have discovered the photographs of the automated survey ASAS-SN splash of luminosity among the stars in the galaxy М66 of the Leo triplet.
Astronomers discovered in the constellation Leo supernova, the explosion which occurred about 33 million years ago, but only now the light from it reached Earth.
The brightness of the object is about 16.7 magnitude and allows to consider it in the Amateur telescope. About the discovery reported by scientists Astronomer”s telegram.
Chinese astronomers of the Observatory of Yunnan established the spectral class of the object. According to researchers, the star belongs to the class IIP and very similar to SN 1999em. The latest in the peak luminosity reaches about 13.5 magnitude.
Class IIP supernovae are characterized in that their spectra are the lines of hydrogen. It is believed that their explosions are the consequences of the collapse of massive stars.
