Under a layer of sand, archaeologists found a ceremonial platform.
Archaeologists discovered in the ancient city of Petra, a giant ceremonial platform, which may be about two thousand years.
The discovery was made using satellite imagery and photos taken by drones. The ancient monument was buried under the sand. According to the archaeologists, the length of the plate is comparable to the length of the Olympic pool, while it is twice as wide (56 to 49 meters).
The monument is located at a distance less than one kilometer from the centre of Petra city in Jordan, which was named one of the seven new wonders of the world in 2007.Using aerial photography, archaeologists were able to establish that the Eastern part of the plate was the stairs, and on one side of the monument was a colonnade. Near the monument was discovered pottery shards, whose age is more than 2150 years.
