An unusual bacterium found in subglacial lake Vostok in Antarctica. This was announced by head of the laboratory of cryostability St.-Petersburg University of nuclear physics named after Konstantinov Sergey Bulat.
“The frozen on the drilling crown water was found absolutely no known bacteria, it’s called “w123-10”, — told Bulat reporters.
According to him, the bacterium has the genetic similarity of 86% with known organisms, which from the point of view of genetics, it is enough to talk about its absolute uniqueness.
Russian scientists and drillers for the first time broke through almost four-kilometer ice layer to the waters of lake Vostok 5 February 2012. Then were taken the first water samples, which found traces of living organisms.
