The Kepler telescope have discovered 1284 new planets outside our Solar system.
National Aeronautics and space administration (NASA) on Tuesday announced the discovery of more than 1.2 thousand new planets, a portion of which is within the “zone of life”.
It is reported by the American edition of Business Insider.
“NASA announces that the Kepler space telescope has discovered 1284 new planets outside our Solar system, which over doubles the number of known exoplanets(around other stars, around the Sun – ed.)”, – stated in the message.
More than 100 new planets have Earth-like mass and almost certainly have rocky terrain. About 550 on all open planets are small, and maybe rocky, nine of them are in the so-called “zone of life”, which can potentially support life forms similar to available on Earth.
The space telescope Kepler, which was actually a satellite Observatory, launched in 2009. He performs, including the mission to find planets the size of Earth in places that could potentially support life. He’s looking for weak originating dimming when planet passes in the background of one of the stars, and defines its dimensions, distance and the ability to stay in the zone conducive to life.
Kepler overcomes the complete path around the Sun for 371 days and constantly moves the direction of observation. Since 2009, he oversaw more than 150 thousand stars.
