American scientists have discovered a gene, removal of which can prolong life by more than half. Geneticists have implemented a unique experimental study with bacteria Saccharomyces cerevisiae — yeast microorganisms that have undergone modification of the genome.
In the experiment, the scientists were able to 4698 modified bacteria, the genetic code which have been made special modifications. Just for the lifespan of the body have 238 genes, experts say. However, changing only one of them – LOS1 – were able to increase the life of yeast cells by as much as 60%.
It should be pointed out that the researchers took into account the experience, not the overall lifespan of organisms and the time, while the mother cell retains the ability to divide.
