The first time scientists have been able to support the embryo for 13 days.
American scientists from the Rockefeller University in new York for the first time were able to sustain life of a human embryo for 13 days. This record surpassed the previous 9 days.
The study has allowed scientists to discover new aspects of human development.
“This is the most mysterious stage of human development. This time, when determining the basic form of the body,” said one of the authors of the study Magdalena Zernicka about the new experience.
Scientists in the experiment were able to identify a special group of cells which appeared on day 10 of embryo development and disappeared at the 12th. Also, biologists were able to observe how the cells eventually form a human body.
“The development of the embryo is an extremely complex process. New work has allowed us to identify remarkable self-organizing capacity… which was previously unknown,” commented the researchers in their experiment.
It is also reported that experts were forced to suspend the experience, because the growing embryo for more than two weeks violates the rules of ethics.
