Specialists of the laboratory of Human Media Lab Queen’s University in Kingston (Ontario, Canada) has developed a flexible holographic smartphone called HoloFlex. A video presentation of an unusual gadget can be viewed on the YouTube page of the laboratory.
HoloFlex bend the screen in different directions, and, unlike other devices with flexible displays, the management of the new smartphone is with bending the screen: the sensors on the back side of the housing detect the degree of deformation and transmit a signal to the processor.
In addition, the screen can display three-dimensional images due to the fact that one of the layers of the display consists of microscopic lenses that diffuse the light. Stereoscopic image on the screen HoloFlex the naked eye can see just a few people. Because the lens system matrix resolution is reduced from 1080p to 160×104 pixels, which, of course, may not be evident.
Thanks to “bending” smartphone users can, for example, to turn the pages of an ebook or play games like Angry Birds, which is demonstrated in a promotional video.
