Astronomers figured out how are giant black holes

Астрономы выяснили, как формируются гигантские черные дырыScientists believe that a supermassive black hole at the centre of almost all large galaxies.

Using data from NASA observatories, astronomers have found the best evidence for the emergence of cosmic sources in the early Universe, which should grow into supermassive black holes.

The researchers combined the data of the Observatory “Chandra” and space telescopes “Hubble” and “Spitzer” to discover these potential seeds of a black hole. They reflected their findings in an article that will appear in the next issue of the Monthly Notices of the Royal astronomical society.

“Our discovery, if confirmed, will explain how these monsters were born. We found evidence that the sources are supermassive black holes can form directly from the collapse of giant gas clouds, skipping all the intermediate steps,” said Fabio Paciucci from the Higher normal school in Pisa (Italy), who led the study.

Scientists believe that a supermassive black hole at the centre of almost all large galaxies, including our milky Way. They found that some of these supermassive black holes, millions or even billions of times more massive than the Sun, formed less than a billion years after the Big Bang. One theory suggests that the seeds of black holes increased, pulling in gas from its surroundings and merging with smaller black holes. This process should take much more time than the new solution found for the quickly formed black holes.

New evidence suggests that some of the first black holes formed directly from collapsing gas clouds, without any other intermediate phases, such as the formation and subsequent destruction of a massive star.

“There is much debate about a way past these black holes. Our work suggests that black holes arise and grow large with normal speed and not grow out of small grains at a very rapid pace,” says study co-author Andrea Ferrara of the Higher normal school.

The researchers used computer models of seed black holes in combination with the new method of selection of candidates for such objects in the images of “Chandra”, “Hubble” and “Spitzer”. The team found two excellent candidates for the role of seed black holes. Both are consistent with the theoretical profile in the infrared range and emit x-rays discovered “Chandra”. Distance estimation was determined that they formed when the universe was younger than one billion years.

The team plans to conduct further observations in x-ray and infrared regions of the spectrum, to verify whether these objects with more properties expected from the seed black holes.
