Alcohol is beneficial or harmful for health: the major myths

Алкоголь - польза или вред для здоровья: главные мифыAlready more than a decade sharpening the controversy over alcoholic beverages.

Alcohol consumption is due, at least seven types of cancer, as researchers found. But the benefits of alcohol to health is very slight.

Researchers from the University of Otago in New Zealand received convincing evidence that alcohol causes 7 types of cancer and, possibly, their number even more. The study authors emphasize that the so-called benefits of regular consumption of alcohol is insignificant, and the dangers of alcohol far exceeds its benefit.

A meta-analysis of existing studies showed that alcohol has a direct harmful effect on the body, although scientists are still not sure of the exact biological reasons of how alcohol causes swelling.

As reported in the study, the results of which were published in the journal Addiction, alcohol each year since 2012 resulted in an estimated half a million deaths from cancer. This is 5.8% of the total mortality of mankind from malignant neoplasms. The use of alcohol is associated with tumors of the mouth and throat, esophagus, liver and various sections of the intestine, and breast.

Based on the available scientific data, the study’s authors argue that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption from the point of view of the threat of cancer, but if the person refuses the alcohol, then the risk of developing cancer is reduced. However, the well-known advantages of the use of alcohol like effect of red wine on the cardiovascular system, according to the researchers, is insignificant, when compared with the risk of developing cancer.

Note that in the last month, scientists from Italy published a study which showed that moderate consumption of beer every day reduces the risk of heart disease up to 25%.
