Two serving of carbonated drinks or sweet juices twice daily increase the risk of developing gallbladder cancer, and the chance of occurrence of cancer in the bile ducts of the liver grows by 79 percent. To this conclusion during extensive and prolonged study made by scientists from the Karolinska Institute (Stockholm, Sweden).

They analyzed the eating habits of 70 thousand adults, and then compared the data with those who 13 years later was diagnosed with cancer. At the beginning of the study, people filled out a special questionnaire where, among others, answered the questions as they consumed soda or juice last week, the average for the previous year.

The survey was held in 1997, participants were on average 61 years, about half of them were overweight and approximately 25 percent smoked. Of the total number of scientists have ruled out those who have already suffered from cancer or diabetes.

Fans of soda were more often overweight, stick to a wrong diet, including overall consumed a lot of sugar. However, an increased risk of tumours of the gallbladder and biliary tract (such as the number of participants in the study eventually recruited 150 people) persisted even after I made allowances for the extra weight of some participants.

However, Swedish scientists say that to speak of a carcinogenic effect of sodas and sweet juices directly is impossible, it is not enough data. But exactly what it is at least an additional risk factor and a marker that points to an unhealthy way of eating, which is the cause of many types of cancer. In addition, the authors do not know of any changes in the dietary preferences of the study participants after the survey.
