The fact that there is a set of laws that describe very well the structure of our world on a microscopic level, what is called the standard model. It is a theoretical model and to ensure that it remains the last experimental evidence is the finding of the Higgs boson. The discovery of the particle dispelled all doubt of the correctness of modern physics, has allowed scientists to breathe a sigh of relief and confidence to take on further work. The Higgs boson itself is an interesting character, because thanks to him you can understand where the particle appears with mass. To feel the importance of what is happening, you can imagine the entire universe. It is filled not only with stars, planets, galaxies, but also different fields (gravitational, magnetic), which permeate the entire body through and through and despite the fact that they are invisible and intangible, we still can notice their effects on a variety of items. Obviously, in a falling hammer effect of gravitational field, while the whole universe is immersed in the ocean of the fields, and we are like fish swimming in it and for a long time already got used to it.

But what if there is a field which we cannot see, because its effect on objects is quite unusual.

And it turns out there is a Higgs field. It is like the instinct of self-preservation for the particles, like a traffic police on the road. If this field was not, then all particles in the universe would move with a maximum speed which would be equal to the speed of light. For example, photons do not notice this field and they always move at the speed of light. But protons and electrons feel this field, interact with it and it slowed, becoming heavier. You can draw an analogy with the foam balls, if they are to scatter on the table surface, then a light breath they will quickly scatter in different directions, but if they are on the surface of the water, then will move rather slowly. The Higgs field acts on the particles according to the same analogy, weighting and not allowing them to accelerate them too fast. But what is mass?

So what role is the Higgs boson? The Higgs field is not noticeable, and for proof of its existence required the boson. So how much is the Higgs boson? All in all this project was spent about 10 billion dollars. It’s not such a big amount, after all, Google earns the same amount in 10 months. This amount has allowed scientists to better understand the structure of our world.
