American astronomers have discovered that the halo of the milky way is in constant motion.
Previously it was thought that the gas within the disk of the galaxy, is in a stationary state. Details of this study published in the overseas edition of the Astrophysical Journal.
This discovery was made by experts, the workers in the walls of the Michigan College of literature, science and art. This scientist has helped the space telescope XMM-Newton at the disposal of the European space Agency. The telescope has allowed astronomers to see inside the halo of the milky way, a process in which there is a Doppler shift of spectral lines of hot oxygen.
Also, scientists were able to notice that the gas inside the halo of the milky way is moving at about the same speed as the disk of the galaxy. Thus, the speed of motion of the gas in the halo is around 640 thousand kilometers, and the galactic disk – 860 thousand kilometers. The researchers noted that this discovery will allow them somewhat better to understand the process of star formation, the individual planets, and galaxies in General.
