The fall in new car sales in Russia accelerated in July

Падение продаж новых автомобилей в России ускорилось в июле

Sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles (LCVs) in Russia decreased in July 2016 16.6% (after a decline by 12.5% in June to 14.5% in may, 8.5 percent in April, 10% in March to 13.4% in February and 29.1% in January), making 109,41 thousand, follows from the review of the Committee automakers Association of European businesses (AEB).

For 7 months of the current year were sold in Russia 781,605 thousand cars, which is 14.4% less than the same period last year.

Sales leader in July was a brand Lada (21,754 thousand vehicles, an increase of 4% compared to the result of the previous year). In second place was the KIA (11,841 thousand; minus 11%). Third place was taken by Hyundai (10,802 thousand; a drop of 11%). Completing the top five Renault and Toyota.

“Whether we like it or not, but in General the current state of the market is far from being able to at least stabilize at a modest level of last year. Despite steady prices, great discounts and the continued support from the government, the main problem is that at the moment there are only a limited number of customers who have the desire and ability to spend money on purchasing a new car. However, long-term demand remains high and actually increases due to the fact that the purchase decision is postponed. It is only a matter of time when the demand is realized. However, it is still unclear how long we will have to wait to change the situation for the better”, — said Chairman of the AEB automobile manufacturers Committee Joerg Schreiber.

At the end of last year, sales of new passenger cars and LCV in Russia fell by 36% to 1.6 million units. In December were sold 147 thousand cars, which is 45.7% less than in the same period of the previous year.

Previously, Schreiber attributed the continued fall in sales of cars in Russia with the ruble weakening.
