Currently, China has more than 150 of the 500 most powerful supercomputers in the world.
A new supercomputer Sunway TaihuLight recognized as the fastest in the world and built solely by Chinese technology.
Sunway TaihuLight able to perform up to 93 quadrillion operations per second. This figure is five times greater than the fastest American supercomputer.
TaihuLight is equipped with 41,000 chips, each of which has 260 cores processor cores. Thus, the total number of nuclei reaches to 10.65 million. From the fastest American supercomputer only 560 thousand. RAM TaihuLight is 1.3 petabytes.
The new product is only used Chinese components. Last fastest supercomputer, China’s, Tianhe-2, was equipped with American Intel. Last year China planned to upgrade Tianhe-2, but in April 2015 the us government has imposed a ban on the export of high-performance computer chips to China. The U.S. Department of Commerce said that the export of such technologies is contrary to the interests of national security.
In recent years, China has made substantial progress in the field of creation of supercomputers. Currently in the country is 167 supercomputers of the 500 most powerful in the world. In 2001, the country was not a single computer that would fall into this list.
