The flow of refugees arriving in the EU through the Balkans, almost stopped. According to the newspaper Le Figaro, citing data from the EU Agency for border security “FRONTEX”, the route the last time I use daily only a few dozen people, while a year ago there were thousands.
“Migratory route in the Balkans more than almost no one passes. We register 50 to 60 crossings on the Turkish border, that pales in comparison with the similar period of last summer when every day was recorded at 2-3 thousand cases,” – said the head of FRONTEX Fabrice, Legere. According to him, the peak was in September and October 2015, when Greece entered a few hundred thousand people, many of whom are still in the Greek refugee centres.
Stabilization of the migration situation in the Balkan area is dictated by several factors. Were closed the borders of Macedonia, Slovenia and Serbia, eliminated several camps, and an agreement was signed between Brussels and Ankara, according to which Mar the Syrians illegally crossing the border are systematically returned to Turkey.
At the same time, the Agency noted an increased migratory tensions in Libya (60 thousand arrivals since the beginning of the year), the emergence of new routes, for example, from Egypt. Experts believe that the number of cases of illegal border crossing between Libya and Italy will exceed the current year all other illegal border crossings.
