Czech brand no longer hide the name of the new model.
Skoda company has declassified the name of the new seven-seater SUV, which premiered to be held in 2016. The car has received the name Kodiaq – in honor of kudyakov, brown bears that live on the same island off the southern coast of Alaska. As explained in the “Skoda”, this name was chosen because the “intelligent” nature of the animal corresponds to the peaceable and practical brand image.
For the first time that the first large SUV Skoda will call it so, in December 2015, reported the German publication Auto Bild. Previously it was assumed that the car can be called a Snowman (“snowman” – similar to the compact Yeti crossover).
Replacement of the letter K on Q in the name refers to the fact that the Eskimos alutiiq inhabiting southern Alaska and the adjacent Islands, called the Taq kudyakov (“AK”). At the same time , as explained by Skoda, letter Q creates a “separate name for the new model”. It is not excluded that the next off-road model of the brand will also have the letter Q in the title.
In addition, Skoda has confirmed other information about Kodiaq media reported earlier: the length of the SUV will be 4.7 meters. The height of the Kodiak, standing on his hind legs, can reach three meters. Bear weighs about 400 pounds. If this animal has a distinctive behavior in the pack, for example, the Kodiak can divide the place of fishing with another bear.
Skoda Kodiaq public premiere will be held in the second half of 2016, most likely in October at the Paris motor show. Sales will start in early 2017.
