When Karimov, according to official figures, the population of Uzbekistan rose from 19.8 to 31.6 million people. This is the highest rate of population growth in the post-Soviet world. The problem of “extra people” Karimov decided to “efficiently” – sent to work in Russia, millions of migrant workers, who now support money transfers to the budget of their Asian homeland.
Today talking about the political uncertainty in Uzbekistan, which is natural. At the same time, persistent concerns have been expressed all these 26 years by Afghan militants, the influx of migrants, drug trafficking, the Islamists, however, no accident happened. While the obvious only two problems: relations of Uzbekistan with Tajikistan and especially Kyrgyzstan, which had already accumulated a lot of conflicts – ethnic clashes, “war for water”, etc. Tashkent dissatisfied with the construction of the Pamir in Tajik Rogun and Kyrgyzstan have already reached the territorial disputes. On the mountain Ungar-Too on not mutually agreed boundary site located radio relay station, which, starting, incidentally, with the 90-ies, in Uzbekistan broadcast the Uzbek editorial office of the British air force, warmly adopted by the government of Kyrgyzstan. For Karimov, the station has been a source of danger, and on 22 August the Uzbek troops took the hill under control.
Among Kyrgyz politicians are those, who are eager for this war with Uzbekistan. Of course, not gone anywhere and the us state Department, to which Uzbekistan is a “zone of special attention” in the region, especially after the events in Turkey, the easing of traffic of opiates, the loss of reference points in Kyrgyzstan and the lack thereof in Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. That is, by and large, to gain a foothold in Central Asia, the United States failed and they will try to change this. That failed Americans in Turkey, they can now try in Tashkent.
