The calculations showed that the oceans on twin Earth have disappeared recently.
Venus three billion years ago could exist habitable conditions and, possibly, life itself. This was stated at the Institute of space studies Goddard in the United States.
In their opinion, it is Venus and not the Earth was the first inhabitable planet in the Solar system.
Scientists came to the conclusion that earlier Venus possessed a mild climate, and on its surface were oceans of water to a depth of two kilometers.
The calculations showed that the oceans on Venus has disappeared relatively recently – about 715 million years ago. That is, their lifetimes would be enough for the emergence of microbes.
It is expected that the full report will be presented at the end of this week at the American astronomical society meeting in Pasadena.
Note that Venus is of interest primarily in its resemblance to the Earth, and there is a possibility that our planet may go on her way.
Scientists believe that earlier Venus and Earth were closer than now and the climate they were identical.
There is a hypothesis that in the distant past this planet was hit by another space object, a blow which made her rotate in the opposite direction. In consequence of this Venus lost magnetic field and water vapor was carried away by the solar wind.
Venus is often called the evil twin sister of the Earth, because now on this planet the harshest conditions in the Solar system.
