Scientists have discovered three new exoplanets

Ученые открыли три новые экзопланеты Three newly discovered planets belong to the class of “hot Jupiters”.

An international team of astronomers has discovered three new exoplanets with the help of sky survey, specifically designed to search for planets, which is controlled by a research institution in Qatar.

These newly discovered giant exoplanets belong to the family of so-called “hot Jupiters” and received the designation of Qatar, 3b, 4b Qatar and Qatar 5b.

These planets were identified with the help of sky survey Qatar Exoplanet Survey (QES), which is administered by the Institute of research in the field of energy and environmental protection (Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute, QEERI), a member of the University Hamad Bin Khalifa, Qatar. In this view of the sky used an automated wide-angle camera located in the state of new Mexico, USA, to search for gas giants, which make a transit in front of relatively bright parent stars. This project confirmed its ability to detect planets in 2010 and 2011, where it was discovered respectively the exoplanet Qatar-1b and Qatar-2b.

In the new study, a team of astronomers under the leadership of Khalid al-Subai, acting Executive Director of the Institute QEERI, has been detected by the sky survey QES three new transit. Three newly discovered planets belong to the class of “hot Jupiters”, gas giants, similar in characteristics with the largest planet Solnechnoi system, but located in the immediate vicinity of the parent star. In the case of three of these newly discovered planets proximity to the star leads to high temperatures on their surfaces within a range of from 1400 to 1700 K.

According to researchers in Qatar 4b is the largest and most massive of this trio of planets. Its radius is 1.55 radius of Jupiter, a mass approximately six times more compared to the mass of the largest planet in our planetary system. It orbits the parent star Qatar 4 age of 13 billion years with a period of 1.8 days.

Planet Qatar Qatar 3b and 5b are approximately the same size and weight. They are both slightly larger than Jupiter (with a radius of 1.1 the radius of Jupiter) and have a mass of 4.3 mass of Jupiter. The orbital periods of these planets are also comparable: Qatar 3b owls
