Off the coast of Canada found the lost ship of the Franklin expedition.
After years of searching marine archaeologists finally managed to find the sunken and missing the ship “Erebus” of the Arctic expedition of British Explorer John Franklin in the years 1846-1848.
In the course of the expedition ships on the various assumptions, stuck in the ice, and the crew died trying to reach the mainland.
The ship was discovered in the area of the Peninsula Adelheid (Canada), in the territory where, according to various estimates, killed team members of the expedition in 1848. Since then, never stopped looking crew and ships. Signs of a sunken ship on a place there in September 2014, but only now after the melting of the ice the researchers got the opportunity to dive and explore the missing ship.
The researchers say that further study of the ship may require specific strengthening to find other items and areas such as the dining room team and the Cabinet of Franklin, which was badly damaged by ice.
Videos taken on the lower deck, show some of the found items of the ship such as the sea chest and the area of the sick Bay. In subsequent studies, the vessel was discovered more than 55 finds, among them a gun with three cores, the hilt of a sword made of copper and wood, with fabric, indicating the type of the Royal troops, and the leg of the table, similar to the one shown in the screenshot cabins of Franklin’s ship “Erebus”, published in the London Gazette, 1845.
Although the research project “Erebus continues, scientists are still interested in finding the second ship “Terror”, also participated in the Franklin expedition. The study’s lead author Tim Harris States that the archaeologists will continue to analyze the ship and the search for other items with the aim not only to trace the main events occurring in the course of the expedition, but also to learn the operation and life of the team members at that time.
