Regular exercise protects against dementia

Регулярные физические упражнения защитят от слабоумияExperts say that sport is the most powerful tool that you can use in terms of prevention of dementia in old age.

Physical exercise can increase production of a key protein that can help keep the brain active and reduce the risk of developing neurological diseases such as dementia, a new study from scientists at new York University.

The data showed that during exercise in the brain of rodents naturally accumulate some chemicals which activate the production of BDNF protein. This protein enhances memory, promotes the formation of new nerve cells and helps to maintain the brain healthy mammals. These results were obtained, when the experts compared the brains of mice who were allowed to do on the wheel on their own within a month with the brain of mice that did not have such opportunities.

According to experts, during physical activity in the liver produces a chemical called beta-hydroxybutyrate (DBHB), which causes certain biological reactions that stimulate BDNF gene to produce more protein of the same name. In addition, the DBHB substance that accumulates in the body and in the brain during exercise, prevents the activation of other proteins in the brain that inhibit the production of BDNF protein by changing the environment of the BDNF gene.
