The Draconid meteor shower can be seen this weekend.
Residents of the Northern hemisphere of Earth can see the first of the October meteor shower on the nights of 8, 9 and 10 October.
Under the condition of clear weather during the evening hours on October 8-10, you can see “falling stars” – meteors Draconid, flying across the sky in all directions from the area where the “head” of the heavenly Dragon.
Draconians – one of the most unpredictable meteor showers. Per hour sometimes it is possible to count from 5 to 15 meteors. However, “in 1926, 1933 and 1946, the thread was brought down to Earth a Grand showers of meteors”. In 2016, the expected number of meteors per hour of the maximum activity will be about 10.
Draconids – breakaway bits of the comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner. Getting into the Earth’s atmosphere, these particles at a height of 75 – 100 km flash meteor or “falling star”. Typically, the stream of meteors loose and its activity is low, but in periods when the comet approaches the Sun and its tail is near our planet, on Earth it is possible to observe intense star rains.
To increase the chances to see a meteor, you need not look at the radiant point, and 60 degrees in the direction, i.e. North-West or the North, in the direction of the Big dipper and the constellations Canes venatici, Lynx and Giraffe. If the trajectory of the meteor passes through the Head of a Dragon, then it is almost certainly a meteor from the Draconids stream.
Draconids are an annual astronomical phenomenon.
