Scientists have discovered new facts about our planet.
The scientists told, when exactly took place the “oxygen catastrophe” on Earth. According to the statement of experts, saturation of the planet’s atmosphere with oxygen occurred 10 million years earlier than previously thought.
Geophysics from USA, South Africa and China stated that the above phenomenon could occur 2,33 billion years ago. Experts could even specify the exact date has been 2,316 billion years ago.
Such conclusions were made after the analysis of ancient geological rocks found in South Africa. In the rocks still remained very high concentration of sulfur isotopes. That amount can be formed only in an anoxic environment. A sharp increase in the amount of oxygen in the Earth’s atmosphere has led to the emergence of life on our planet.
