The collision of protoplanets moon or an asteroid, according to scientists, occurred 3.8 billion years ago. The diameter of a celestial body reached 250-300 miles and probably belonged to the class E of objects in the asteroid belt between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.
To such conclusions scientists have analyzed possible scenarios for the formation of the Geology of the Sea of Rains on the moon, including the impact crater, as well as primary (emanating from the crater) and secondary ditches. The diameter of the area (along with the crater and ditches) is 1250 miles.
Geophysics with a special gun, firing at different angles material, conducted laboratory experiments that showed that the secondary ditches occurred after the fall of asteroid particles, previously bounced off the moon’s surface.
Previously conducted assessment scientists assumed that in diameter collided with the Moon, the object was 80 kilometers. A new study has helped to clarify the size and mass of a celestial body. Geophysicists believe that probably in the early stages of development of the Solar system neighborhood of Venus, Earth and Mars contained a large number of protoplanets (or large asteroids).
